Primary Election 2024 = Your Township Leaders

The primary election has never been more important for Tyrone Township residents. Our Township Board consists of a Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer, and 4 Trustees, all of whom are elected officials and serve 4-year terms. There are 2 candidates running for Supervisor, and 9 candidates running for 4 Trustee spots. We also have a clerk and treasurer running for re-election unopposed. All candidates have filed Republican.

There are a few very important facts to know about the Primary Election. Michigan hosts open primaries, meaning voters do not need to declare a particular party affiliation to vote. When you participate in a primary election, you are choosing the candidates for that party that you most want to represent the party in the general election. For this reason, YOU CANNOT SPLIT PARTY VOTE IN THE PRIMARY! That means, anyone who wants their vote to count for local leadership must vote the Republican ticket in this year’s primary. Those candidates who receive the most votes in the primary will advance to the general election. By then, candidates for Tyrone Township will be running uncontested. This is why the primary determines who will win our Tyrone Township Board positions.

Furthermore, if you vote absentee and you accidentally split party vote, your ballot is spoiled. If you vote in person and make the same mistake, the machine will return your ballot to you and you may request a new ballot on site.

Another important note is that you must mark the actual boxes to vote for the candidates you’re choosing. There’s no straight party option in the primary election. Carefully look at the names to purposefully select 1 Supervisor, and 4 Trustees. There will only be one choice for the clerk and treasurer candidates.

There are multiple ways to cast your vote:

  • ABSENTEE Voting (AV) ballots will start going out to the public June 27th.

  • 9 days of EARLY in-person voting takes place July 27th - August 4th from 9a-5p at the Tyrone Township Hall. 8420 Runyan Lake Rd, Fenton. This includes the weekend.

  • In-person PRIMARY ELECTION will be held August 6th, 2024, 7a-9p at all Tyrone Township voting precincts.

No matter who you’re supporting in this year’s election for local leadership, mark your calendars and show up to vote! Call your friends and neighbors to remind them to vote too! Let’s aim for record setting turnout!
